Acetic acid, also called acetic acid (36%-38%), glacial acetic acid (98%), chemical formula CH3COOH, is an organic monobasic acid, is the main component of vinegar. Pure anhydrous acetic acid (glacial acetic acid) is a colorless and hygroscopic solid with a freezing point of 16.6°C (62°F). After solidification, it becomes a colorless crystal. Its aqueous solution is weakly acidic and highly corrosive. The steam is harmful to the eyes and nose. Stimulating effect.
Function
Acetic acid can be used as acidity regulator, acidulant, pickling agent, flavor enhancer, spice, etc. It is also a good antimicrobial agent, which is mainly due to its ability to lower the pH below the pH required for optimal growth of microorganisms. Acetic acid is the earliest and most used sour agent in my country. It is mainly used for compound seasoning, wax preparation, canned food, cheese, jelly, etc. When used in seasonings, acetic acid can be diluted with water to a 4%~5% solution and then added to various seasonings for application. Beverages made with vinegar as a sour agent and supplemented by pure natural nutrition and health products are called international third-generation beverages.
Security and Protection
Dangerous
Flash point (℃): 39
Explosion limit (%): 4.0~17
Electrostatic effect: may cause polymerization hazard
Flammability: Auto-ignition temperature: 463℃
Dangerous characteristics: It can react violently with oxidants, and react violently with sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. It is corrosive to metals after dilution.
Acetic acid at higher concentrations is corrosive and can cause skin burns, permanent blindness of the eyes and inflammation of the mucous membranes, so proper protection is required. The above-mentioned burns or blisters may not appear immediately, and most of them appear within a few hours after exposure. Latex gloves are not protective, so you should wear special gloves when handling acetic acid, such as nitrile rubber gloves. Concentrated acetic acid is difficult to burn in the laboratory, but when the ambient temperature reaches 39°C (102°F), it has a flammable threat. Above this temperature, acetic acid can mix with air and explode (explosion limit 4%~17%) Volume concentration).
Because of the strong pungent odor and corrosive vapor, the handling of acetic acid with a concentration of more than 25% should be carried out under the eye mask. Dilute acetic acid solutions, such as vinegar, are harmless. However, ingesting a high concentration of acetic acid solution is harmful to human and animal health.
Leak handling
Pollution discharge category: Z
Leakage treatment: cut off the fire source, wear protective glasses, gas masks and acid-resistant overalls, wash the spilled material with a lot of water, make it flow into the channel, and be diluted quickly, thereby reducing the harm to the human body.
Fire fighting method
Use water spray, dry powder, alcohol-resistant foam, carbon dioxide, and extinguish the fire. Keep the containers in the fire scene cool with water. Use mist of water to disperse the vapor, drive away the leaked liquid, and make the dilution into a non-flammable mixture. And spray with water to stop the leaking personnel.
First Aid
Skin contact: Rinse with water before skin contact, and then wash thoroughly with soap.
Eye contact: If the eyes are irritated, rinse with water and wipe with a dry cloth. In severe cases, send to the hospital for treatment.
Inhalation: If inhalation of vapours will cause the patient to leave the contaminated area, rest and keep warm.
Ingestion: If swallowed by mistake, rinse mouth immediately, give emetics to induce vomiting, and rush to hospital for treatment.
Protection measures
Respiratory system protection: When the depth concentration in the air exceeds the standard, a gas mask should be worn.
Eye protection: wear chemical safety glasses.
Hand protection: wear rubber gloves.
Others: After work, take a shower and change clothes. Do not bring work clothes into the living area.
Management of operations
Airtight operation, strengthen ventilation. Operators must undergo special training and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter gas masks (half masks), chemical safety glasses, acid and alkali-resistant plastic overalls, and rubber acid- and alkali-resistant gloves. Keep away from fire and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Prevent the vapor from leaking into the air in the workplace. Avoid contact with oxidants and alkalis. When handling, load and unload with care to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equipped with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may be harmful residues.
Storage management
Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The storage temperature should be kept higher than 16℃ in the freezing season to prevent solidification. Keep the container tightly closed. It should be stored separately from oxidants and alkalis, and avoid mixed storage. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and suitable storage materials.
Management of transportation
The rail transportation time limit of this product is to be shipped in tank trucks provided by the aluminum enterprise, and it needs to be reported to the relevant authorities for approval before shipment. Non-canned railway transportation shall be carried out in strict accordance with the dangerous goods distribution table in the "Dangerous Goods Transportation Regulations" of the Ministry of Railways. The packaging should be complete at the time of shipment, and the loading should be secure. During transportation, ensure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall, or be damaged. The tank (tank) truck used during transportation should have a grounding chain, and a hole partition can be set in the tank to reduce vibration and static electricity. Mixed loading or mixed transportation with oxidants, alkalis, edible chemicals, etc. is strictly prohibited. When transporting by road, follow the prescribed route and do not stop in residential or densely populated areas.
Abandoned management
Dispose of by incineration.
